SANTA RITA, Guam – The Navy Exchange (NEX) on Naval Communications Telecom Station (NCTS) Guam was awarded the 2020 Bingham Award at Clipper Landing on Naval Base Guam (NBG), Oct. 14, 2021. The award was established in 1979 to recognize outstanding performance in operations, customer service, and community support.

The Bingham Award is broken down into nine categories. NEX NCTS Guam won the award for Sales Category 5, which recognizes stores that generated $4 - $12 million in profits for the fiscal year. The award was also presented to Col. Christopher Bopp, the Marine Corps Base (MCB) Camp Blaz commanding officer.

“Because of how closely our NEX and base Commanding Officers work to support quality of life for the military community, this award is presented to both of them,” said retired Rear Adm. Robert J. Bianchi, Chief Executive Officer, Navy Exchange Service Command (NEXCOM). “Our stores couldn’t do what they do without the support of the base Commanding Officer and our stores are viewed as mission essential to the U.S. Navy. It is a great partnership and our military, Veterans, retirees and families are the beneficiaries.”

The NCTS Guam NEX is a smaller store, yet still provides several beneficial services to its community of patrons. The exchange features a dry cleaning store, barber shop, military clothing and sales, electronics, general shopping, and has a variety of fresh sushi available for purchase.

”The exchange directly improves the quality of life for the Marines and civilians on Camp Blaz,” said Bopp. “This award is well-deserved and a reflection of the great team we have here on NCTS. Everyone’s hard work and professionalism does not go unnoticed and is greatly appreciated.”

The NEX Bingham Award is named in honor of the late Capt. W.H. Bingham, SC, USNR. Capt. Bingham was the Chief Executive Officer of R.H. Macy’s Company and was appointed by the Secretary of the Navy in 1946 to lead an advisory board for the establishment of NEXCOM.
