ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL, Ill. – Clinton Holliday, a U.S. Army Sustainment Command quality assurance specialist (ammunition surveillance), was recently recognized as QASAS of the Year.
Holliday said it is a very specialized field, with approximately 50 GS-13 QASASs across the Army. Holliday was recognized by a panel of his peers for his contributions to the program.
“We provide a full spectrum of ammunition expertise and services to commanders and Soldiers,” said Holliday, “that include explosive safety, storage, transportation, packaging, and logistics.”
He added that it’s his job to ensure serviceable, ready, and reliable ammunition for warfighters to use in both training and combat environments.
Holliday began his career as a Department of the Army civilian as a materials handler and forklift operator at McAlester Army Ammunitions Plant in McAlester, Oklahoma. He transitioned to being a QASAS in 2004, and has served in ASC since June 2019. He currently works in the System Program Office, Supply Chain Operations Directorate, Class V & QASAS Division here at RIA.
Each candidate submits an annual career appraisal packet that is reviewed by an independent panel of peers and is ranked according to the results of the panel. The one achieving the highest score at each grade is considered the QASAS of the Year at that grade.
Being QASAS of the Year doesn’t come with a special physical award or certificate, but it is included in his personnel records, and Holliday said simply being recognized by his peers is very important to him.
“Nothing gives me a greater sense of pride and patriotism than supporting our brave men and women in uniform,” he said. “To be recognized for my role in supporting them – the warfighters – is a tremendous honor.”
Holliday said he was notified of the honor in August by the Career Program -20 Ammunition Civilian Career Management Office, located at McAlester.
