The aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) received its end of mission report from Afloat Training Group Oct. 24 marking the completion of Command Assessment of Readiness and Training (CART) II.
CART II is to assess the training needs of the ship and develop a training plan for the subsequent basic phase training period.
“I am very grateful for all the effort our Sailors put into CART II to make it a success,” said Capt. Robert Aguilar, GHWB’s commanding officer. “We can be very proud of the work we have done over the last 18 months to be operational again, and our mission to learn and grow as a team continues.”
CART II focused on GHWB’s ability to safely and effectively train the ship’s crew in all aspects of warfighting and ship survivability. Casualties imposed by each departmental training team tested the crew’s reaction and response to possible real-world events. The general quarters assessment tested the ship’s Damage Control Training Team, repair lockers, and battle dress stations ability to address casualties such as fires, flooding, and toxic gas. Similarly, the Engineering Training Team, Medical Training Team, Seamanship and Navigation Training Team, and Combat Systems Training Team completed assessments of their capabilities and training needs. Overall, the Integrated Training Team, which includes all individual training teams, completed CART II’s schedule of events.
GHWB will continue to complete unit level training to increase operational readiness and combat effectiveness.
GHWB provides the national command authority flexible, tailorable warfighting capability as the flagship of a carrier strike group that maintains maritime stability and security in order to ensure access, deter aggression and defend U.S., allied and partner interests
