COLUMBIA, S.C. – The 228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade, South Carolina National Guard, conducted a change of command ceremony Oct. 17, 2021, at McCrady Training Center in Eastover, South Carolina, to recognize the outgoing commander and welcome the incoming.

U.S. Army Col. Linda Riedel will serve as the next commander of the 228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade. Riedel is taking command from U.S. Army Col. Ryan Price.

Riedel will be the first African American female service member to command the 228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade, making her selection a historic event for the unit and the organization.

She stated, “I am proud to serve with a great group of Americans who make mission success possible. Who have made sacrifices along the way that represent the brand we are today. Because our adversaries will never back down and never cease, we have to remain steadfast in our training and in our profession as Soldiers. I look forward to the opportunity.”

Riedel joined the South Carolina National Guard in April 1988. She has held numerous assignments throughout her South Carolina National Guard career to include 116th and 114th Signal company platoon leader; 151st Signal Battalion, Headquarters and Headquarters Company commander; 105th Signal Battalion, Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment logistics officer; 218th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade civil affairs officer; 228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade operations officer; and 125th Cyber Protection Battalion commander.

Riedel is a recent graduate of the National Defense University, College of Information and Cyber Space, Senior Service College at Fort McNair, Washington, D.C. She currently works fulltime at the Citadel as the Deputy Director of Operations and Outreach, Citadel Department of Defense Cyber Institute in the Cyber and Computer Sciences department.

Riedel is from Barnwell, South Carolina and currently resides in Charleston, South Carolina.

The 228th Theater Tactical Signal Brigade deploys and provides secure, reliable, and sustainable communications, as well as cyber support, across the full spectrum of Joint and Combined military operations. It is the parent unit of the 151st Expeditionary Signal Battalion and the 125th Cyber Protection Battalion. The unit is headquartered in Spartanburg, South Carolina and has units in Hodges, Greenwood, Camden, and Eastover.
