The U.S. flag is shown flying at half-staff Oct. 13, 2021, as a mark of respect to the memory of retired Gen. Edward C. Meyer, the 29th chief of staff of the U.S. Army, at Fort McCoy, Wis.
In 1979, Meyer was promoted to general and then served as the Army chief of staff from June 22, 1979, to June 21, 1983. He retired from active duty in 1983.
The flag was flown at half-staff at all Department of the Army buildings, grounds, and naval vessels worldwide from reveille to retreat through Oct. 13.
Fort McCoy's motto is to be the “Total Force Training Center.”
Also, located in the heart of the upper Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army installation in Wisconsin. The installation has provided support and facilities for the field and classroom training of more than 100,000 military personnel from all services nearly every year since 1984.
