Renovations are currently underway at Tyndall’s Berg-Liles Dining Facility to modernize structures and systems.
The $9.8 million renovation project began in May 2020 and includes upgrades to the infrastructure and mechanical aspects of the building.
“The DFAC upgrades were made to sustain a Category 5 hurricane,” said Master Sgt. Cinnamon Calloway Fuller, 325th Force Support Squadron sustainment services flight superintendent. “We also received non-slip floors in the kitchen and storeroom and a fresh coat of paint as well as an upgrade to the fire suppression system, HVAC controls, and lighting.”
The Berg-Liles DFAC sustained significant damage after Hurricane Michael in 2018. It reopened for use in September 2019, after repairs were made, to continue operations in support of Tyndall Airmen. The renovations will bring a chance to modernize the facility.
“The renovation is important because the building is over 30 years old and it was time for a refresh,” said Calloway Fuller. “With Tyndall building up [as the ‘Installation] of the Future’ and an influx of personnel, we need to ensure our facility is capable of the expansion of our menu, capacity and authorized patrons.”
Those authorized to utilize the DFAC include Tyndall’s permanent party active duty personnel, permanent party commanders, TDY personnel and military retirees. Immediate family members of those aforementioned are eligible to dine at the DFAC on designated days as well as officers and Department of Defense civilians on alert status, Reserve and Guard units and foreign military members with prior coordination.
“Our primary mission is to fuel the lethality of the human weapon system and provide dorm residents a well-rounded, nutritional meal option,” said Calloway Fuller. “In the future, patrons can expect a more diverse menu, to include the addition of specialty bars, and a great dining experience.”
