405th Army Field Support Brigade - Europe & Africa

VILSECK, GERMANY – The 405th Army Field Support Brigade and its Army Field Support Battalion Germany bid farewell to its top noncommissioned officer in Bavaria and the second most senior NCO in the brigade Oct. 29.

During a ceremony at the chapel on Rose Barracks in Vilseck, Sgt. Maj. Thipphawan Grant, the sergeant major of AFSBn Germany, was laterally promoted to the rank of command sergeant major. Her next assignment will be command sergeant major of the 832nd Ordnance Battalion at Fort Lee, Virginia.

Grant, who was the first ever sergeant major assigned to AFSBn Germany, served with the battalion as its senior enlisted leader since August 2019. During the ceremony she was awarded the Army Meritorious Service Medal for her dedicated and faithful service to AFSBn Germany, the 405th AFSB and U.S. Army Sustainment Command.

“For the last 17 months Sgt. Maj. Grant has been my sergeant major,” said Lt. Col. Rebecca Milkowski, the commander of AFSBn Germany. “She has been a trusted confidant, a patient sounding board, a loyal battle buddy, and a tireless supporter of our organization and its people. She embraced our challenges, celebrated our victories and served faithfully as my other half in command.

“She made a lasting impression on AFSBn Germany and leaves enormous boot prints for our next senior enlisted advisor to fill,” Milkowski said.

Grant entered the Army in February 1995 and has served as a squad leader, section chief, platoon sergeant, senior mechanic, motor sergeant, Basic Leader Course instructor and writer, Advanced Individual Training platoon sergeant, maintenance control supervisor, battalion senior maintenance supervisor, first sergeant, and now AFSBn sergeant major.

Grant is a graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy, Class 69, and she holds a Bachelor of Science degree in technical management and a Master of Science degree in human resource management.
