CONCORD, Mass. (October 28, 2021) – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District announced today an upcoming temporary work area closure near the War Memorials at Back Bay Fens in the vicinity of Agassiz Road and Park Drive as work activities continue to progress on Phase 2 of the $36.5 million Muddy River Flood Risk Management project in Boston and Brookline, Massachusetts.
Beginning Nov. 1, 2021, temporary construction fencing will be installed in project Work Area #10 in the vicinity of the War Memorials at Back Bay Fens. The existing concrete walkway will remain open for pedestrian access for the duration of the project.
Progress for the Phase 2 project continues with dredging of Work Area #10 in the vicinity of Agassiz Road and Park Drive. Temporary construction fencing is required in this location so that excavation and removal of the phragmites can be safely accomplished as part of the dredging project. Plantings and restoration of this area will begin in 2022 to coincide with the spring planting window. Maintenance of the plantings will begin immediately during the two-year guarantee period.
