ASAN, Guam – Rear Adm. John Korka, commander, Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC), and Chief of Civil Engineers, toured NAVFAC Marianas and Officer in Charge of Construction (OICC) Marine Corps Marianas construction sites during a visit to Guam Nov. 1-2.

During his time on island, Korka viewed NAVFAC Marianas and OICC MCM projects including the Lima Wharf revitalization aboard U.S. Naval Base Guam, Tanker Maintenance Hangars and Strike Fuel Systems at Andersen Air Force Base, and the Live-Fire Training Range Complex and bachelor enlisted quarters at Marine Corps Base Camp Blaz.

"The progress NAVFAC Marianas and OICC Marine Corps Marianas has made in the region is an outstanding testament of the hard work and dedication of our Sailors and civilian workforce," he said. "During a time of strategic competition, it is vital that we provide the facilities and infrastructure required to keep our Sailors and Marines ready and able to successfully fulfill mission requirements."

As part of the visit, the admiral and Force Master Chief of the Seabees Delbert Terrell met with Seabees stationed and forward deployed to the island during an all-hands call and addressed questions and concerns related to training and readiness, force growth, and uniform regulations.

“It’s very motivating to see what the Seabees, along with the officers and the entire community, have done with the 30th (Naval Construction Regiment) and NAVFAC Marianas,” said Terrell. “It’s been awesome hanging out with them and throwing thoughts back and forth. It has been a struggle with COVID, but to see them continuing to stay positive motivates me.”
