    165th Airlift Wing

    GARDEN CITY, Ga. -- U.S. Air Force Col. Christopher M. Dunlap, outgoing commander of the 165th Airlift Wing, Georgia Air National Guard, relinquished command to Col. Robert "Bob" S. Noren during a change of command ceremony on Sunday, November 7 at 10:00 a.m. at Savannah Air National Guard Base, Georgia.
    The presiding official of the ceremony was Maj. Gen. Thomas Grabowski, the commander of the Georgia Air National Guard.
    “Over the last 25 months, the 165th Airlift Wing team received it’s 13th Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, served in five Combatant Commands, had 300 Airmen volunteer for the state’s COVID-19 response, and earned many other accolades under Col. Dunlap’s command,” said Grabowski.

    Dunlap was awarded the Legion of Merit Award for his accomplishments as the wing commander and he will take a new position as the Director of Operations and Future Mission Conversions at Joint Force Headquarters for the Georgia National Guard.
    The 165th Airlift Wing’s newest commander, Noren has over 23 years of service and has held several titles throughout his career including Flight Commander, Director of Operations, Air Liaison Officer, Joint Terminal Attack Controller (Instructor) and most recently 165th Mission Support Group Commander.
    Noren said he wants to be considered a civil servant to the members of the 165th Airlift Wing and that his top priorities going into the future will remain our people, readiness and effective communication with our citizen Airmen.
    Dunlap congratulated Noren on this new endeavor as the wing commander stating that he is “the right guy, at the right time” going into the future of the 165th Airlift Wing and our aircraft conversion from C-130 Hercules to the C-130J models.
    Grabowski finished his remarks by highlighting Noren’s accomplishments and job qualifications, and thanked Dunlap for his service here in Savannah.
    “Thank you both for your outstanding leadership and the best to Col. Noren during his command at the 165th Airlift Wing,” said Grabowski.
