    2nd Bomb Wing

Global Thunder is an annual exercise that heavily features the U.S. Air Force’s premier bomber installations, demonstrating the ability for American nuclear power to deter key targets worldwide.

The 2nd Maintenance Group is the crucial team that ensures Barksdale has a fleet of combat ready heavy bombers to contribute to America’s global reach with the most flexible leg of the nuclear triad.

“Global Thunder is important for Barksdale because it shows the ability of our Striker Nation team to generate a potent response to any threat,” said Technical Sgt. Elias Sapp, 2nd Maintenance Group crew chief. “This is how we meet the needs of the defense of our nation.”

Barksdale’s primary goal is to provide unrivaled winning combat airpower made possible by the maintenance teams every day. The demands of Global Thunder requires the 2nd Maintenance Group’s well-trained Airmen to put forth their best for successful bomber operations.

“From the tankers in air maintenance crews that refuel the aircraft, all the way down to the newer Airman turning wrenches to maintain the B-52s, everyone here has a role in deterring our adversaries," said Sapp. “Global Thunder truly showcases what the Department of Defense is capable of.”

The exercise demonstrates that U.S. Forces are capable of providing the President with options if called upon to protect the homeland, allies and partners.

“Being a part of something on the caliber of an exercise like Global Thunder, is rewarding and humbling.” said Senior Airman Joe Dorsey, 2nd Maintenance Group crew chief.

Global Thunder has a worldwide impact, involving allies in both Europe and the Pacific, as well as other combatant commands and U.S. government agencies.

“Seeing my fellow Airmen and myself reach such great heights makes me proud to be a part of the team here at Barksdale.” said Dorsey.

The continued success of the Global Thunder exercise rides on the competency of maintenance crews, like the 2nd Maintenance Group, who continue to provide the U.S. with matchless weapon platforms, allowing the Department of Defense to accomplish global reach.
