The Basic Crisis Negotiations Course is designed for law enforcement and corrections personnel, mental health professionals, supervisors, team leaders and commanders who are assigned to, work with, or oversee the functions of a crisis or hostage negotiations team.
“I wanted to focus this course on the southern part of New Mexico for the agencies in the surrounding area,” said Ryan Jackson, FBI supervisory senior resident agent. “We want to build strong relationships with other agencies and help them accomplish their mission to keep people safe in all crisis situations.”
The course lasted 40 hours and trained personnel from: Holloman AFB, Kirtland AFB, Cannon AFB, Alamogordo Police Department, Albuquerque PD, Ruidoso PD, Roswell PD, Portales PD and the FBI.
“This training builds a sense of community with our other law enforcement agencies and enables our readiness,” said Tech. Sgt. Kiirstyn Gunterman, 49th Security Forces Squadron noncommissioned officer in charge of training. “It’s kind of a deep dive into how someone in crisis is thinking and then how you, as a negotiator, can respond and interact with that person.”
Protecting the American people and the homeland is one of the priorities for the U.S. National Security Strategy. By providing this training for local law enforcement across southern New Mexico, they can build relationships that increase their readiness and communication to protect everyone during emergency situations.
