U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command

DETROIT ARSENAL, Mich. – Col. Steven Carozza, chief of staff for the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command, discussed the importance of honoring veterans of all services in his remarks made during a Veterans Day ceremony held at Resurrection Cemetery’s Veterans Memorial in Clinton Township Nov. 11.

“Honoring those who have stepped up to serve our nation – putting themselves in harm’s way, putting their lives on hold, enduring hardship and separation from their Families – is why we set this day aside,” Carozza said.

This year, he noted, Veterans Day celebrations included the 100th anniversary of the dedication of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

“As a nation, we honor (our veterans), and we remember them,” Carozza said. “Their sacrifice will endure as long as this nation endures.”

Carozza, whose father was a veteran of the Vietnam War, recalled a visit made to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier when he was growing up.

“The Tomb is, I would argue, the very core of Arlington National Cemetery. The visit I made as a kid impacted me very much, and it has stuck with me ever since,” and added that once he became a Soldier, he made it a point to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and render a salute.

“As a nation, we must ensure that the service and sacrifice of our Veterans is never overlooked or forgotten,” he said.

Carozza also noted that the U.S. has the largest population of young veterans since the Vietnam War, stating, “We owe a large debt of gratitude to these men and women who have given so much to their country.”

“Regardless of the military branch in which our veterans have served – Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard or the Space Force, this day belongs to them.”

“Today,” Carozza said, “We express our deepest gratitude to all of them.”
