JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va –The Army defines readiness as the ability of the force to conduct a full range of military capabilities, against any enemy, in any environment. How commands like U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command and U.S. Army Forces Command collaborate to build a ready and lethal force, will be topic of discussion for the next TRADOC Leader Professional Development session airing at 11 a.m. November 16.
Gen. Paul E. Funk ll, TRADOC commanding general, will host the discussion with Gen. Michael X. Garrett, FORSCOM commanding general.
The panelists will discuss the Army’s continuous readiness efforts in how it modernizes training and program improvements, including the newly announced Regionally Aligned Readiness and Modernization Model.
“FORSCOM is implementing ReARMM to build readiness through predictable and specific windows for modernization, training and mission,” Garrett said. “This is a unique opportunity for us to build predictability, regional connections, and technological transformations in our units.”
Since its implementation, the Army has invested many ReARMM efforts of resources and leadership, as these investments are top priorities to both TRADOC and FORSCOM.
In addition to ReARMM, building cohesive teams is critical effort not limited to the lowest unit level, but is essential across all of the Army commands. These relationships influence mission readiness, Garrett added.
“In building total Army readiness, FORSCOM and TRADOC are uniquely partnered and share a symbiotic relationship when it comes to producing training readiness, both individual and collective,” Garrett said.
The discussion will expand on how those command relationships can influence Army leaders’ decisions when building training missions to ensure units are well led, manned, trained and equipped.
“Tailored readiness is FORSCOM’s way of identifying a unit’s specific requirements for its next planned mission and tailoring its training plan to achieve the right level of readiness without spending resources our training does not require,” Garrett said.
For the Army, tailored readiness not only improves the Army overall, but helps to build leaders and Soldiers ready to compete now and into the future.
“Last year, the Chief of Staff of the Army commissioned FORSCOM to revise the Army’s Training Strategy to ensure we produce the necessary levels of readiness to meet our global commitments,” Garrett said. “At the same time, those revisions enable time preservation to operationalize newly issued priorities and guidance from the Secretary of the Army and the Chief published in their Action Plan to prioritize people and teams.”
Garrett will also highlight FORSCOM’s tailored readiness through changes to Combat Training Centers that are influential for force development, and offer world-class training and leadership opportunities from squad to brigade level.
The session will be a key focus on the Army’s total readiness efforts as the force moves towards building highly trained and holistically fit cohesive teams.
“Readiness relies on the entire Army, not just FORSCOM and TRADOC. We must all work together as a team to ensure every unit is ready to execute their assigned mission,” Garrett said.
