    FORT STEWART, Ga. – The “Maintain Battalion,” 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, conducted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the new brigade supply support activity facility on Nov. 9 at Fort Stewart. Over the past few months, the brigade distribution company, Alpha Company, 703rd BSB, worked to move the SSA to its new facility on Fort Stewart. The move to the new facility is the first step to ensure the sustainment enterprise is prepared support 2nd ABCT through modernization.

    Throughout the weeks prior to Alpha Company, 703rd BSB, successfully moved over 100 truckloads of supplies and equipment to the new SSA ensuring there was no breaks in the supply chain.

    “It's not about just the SSA; it's about what you're doing for the brigade, which is ultimately helping our division,” Col. Terry R. Tillis said during the ceremony, commander of the “Spartan Brigade,” 2nd ABCT, 3rd ID. "You’ve been able to transition successfully back from Europe and gotten yourselves all the way back into that [old] SSA and then to move it again and then in less than two weeks you were able to establish this building structure, and you are now receiving and issuing."

    During the relocation of the SSA, Alpha Company also ensured the next generation storage solutions for the facility were fielded, known as the Expeditionary Bulk Storage System, with 10 out of 20 already arriving. This will ensure the company is prepared to go anywhere and transport all supplies 2nd ABCT will need to keep its equipment maintained and ready to fight.

    “I’ve stood in front of this formation on multiple occasions in multiple different countries, and I’ve told them how great they are, how special they are to me,” Lt. Col. Harley Jennings, commander of the 703rd BSB, said during the ceremony. “By measurable statistics, the Spartan SSA is the number one support activity in the U.S. Army.”

    Additionally, news systems and processes continue to further enhance the effectiveness of the new SSA. This included a standard operation procedure revision to provide a more efficient process for the receipt, storage and issue of maintenance parts and supply items and working with the Division to obtain Globally Combat System Support-Army handheld tablets to operate both on tactical and installation networks to enable increased network capabilities to account for and manage parts.

    “Working with our teammates across the Division, we are able to provide world class distribution support both in garrison and in a tactical environment,” said Capt. James Granberg, commander of Alpha Company, 703rd BSB. “The new initiatives implemented will ensure an accurate and efficient supply chain and support the brigade through its continued modernization effort.”
