Senior leaders from 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, 164th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, and the Spanish NATO task force met at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey, on Nov. 3, 2021, during a country visit by Maj. Gen. Greg Brady and Command Sgt. Maj. Giancarlo Macri, the 10th AAMDC command team.
Spanish Army Lt. Col. Antonio Miro, commander of the Spanish NATO task force at Incirlik Air Base, hosted the meeting with key discussions about ways to grow capacity and interoperability based on the Spanish unit’s vast operational experience and their possible participation in the upcoming integrated air and missile defense exercise Ramstein Legacy 2022.
Maj. Gen. Brady commented after the meeting, “It’s remarkable what Spain is building for the integrated air and missile defense capability of the alliance, especially in terms of their experience as the longest-term forward-deployed Patriot battery.”
The meeting in Turkey fell just days after Maj. Gen. Brady spoke to a standing-room only audience of military planners from multiple NATO countries on Ramstein Air Base to kick of the main planning conference for exercise Ramstein Legacy 2022.
Exercise Ramstein Legacy 2022, scheduled for this coming summer, is going to be the largest ground-based integrated air and missile defense exercise in the world, bringing together NATO IAMD Allies and partners to build theater-wide procedural interoperability.
“For the first time since the end of the cold-war, we will conduct a hand-over, take-over where all ground-based air and missile defense elements will fall under NATO command structure,” said Brady. “This is going to be one of the most significant readiness events for the air command in years.”
Growing capacity through interoperability across Europe for our integrated air and missile defense continues to be a top priority. The Commander of U.S. European Command, Gen. Wolters, highlighted this during his confirmation in congress; “NATO and USEUCOM require a credible, integrated air and missile defense capability, to include a robust command and control architecture capable of creating a fully integrated air and missile threat picture able to transition from peace through crisis to conflict.” As commander of the 10th AAMDC, Maj. Gen. Brady works with Allies and partners to achieve the common goal of an integrated air and missile defense community.
