Marines and civilian-Marines from Marine Corps Logistics Command (MARCORLOGCOM), Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC), and Program Executive Office-Land Systems (PEO-LS) came together to hold the quarterly Sustainment Planning and Execution (SPE) Forum On Nov. 17 at Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Ga.
The goal of the SPE forum is to foster a Weapon System Lifecycle Sustainment environment characterized by increased integration and collaboration among the three key Weapons System Lifecycle stakeholders, MARCORLOGCOM, MCSC, and PEO-LS.
Colonel Kirk M. Spangenberg, director, Weapon Systems Management Center (WSMC), MARCORLOGCOM, led the forum and talked about its importance to the Corps. “This forum get’s those key players as it relates to acquisition and sustainment together to form a team around problems and collectively solve them,” said Spangenberg.
Forum attendees utilize the Agile Scrum methodology to tackle the complex problems inherent to managing weapon systems for a lifetime that can span as many as 40 years.
Spangenberg added, “WSMC’s mantra of the right stuff, right place, right time, ready to fight requires a synchronized effort to effectively sustain the Corps’ equipment.”
Douglas J. Kosky, deputy assistant, Program Executive Office – Logistics, attended the forum and spoke about the positive outcomes saying, “Without this forum and the work that we do here, the program managers cannot effectively inform MARCORLOGCOM to enable sustainment of systems and equipment.”
Summarizing the total effort - Kosky said, “The collaboration greatly increases the ability to deliver readiness to the Fleet Marine Force.”
In addition to the briefs, discussions, and breakout meetings, the forum’s attendees toured Marine Depot Maintenance Command’s Production Plant Albany (PPA). A highlight of the tour was the capabilities demonstration provided by PPA’s Additive Manufacturing (AM) Center of Excellence.
