YOKOHAMA, Japan (Nov. 21, 2021) – The Emory S. Land-class submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) departed Yokohama, Japan, Nov. 21.
It was the first visit to Yokohama for the submarine tender and the ship’s first visit to Japan in more than five years.
While in Yokohama, Frank Cable hosted Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Vice Adm. Yoshitaka Ozama, Commander, Fleet Submarine Forces Japan, along with several other distinguished visitors.
“It was an honor to host Vice Admiral Ozawa aboard our ship," said Capt. Albert Alarcon, Frank Cable's commanding officer. “Our Sailors and civilian mariners enjoyed the opportunity to demonstrate and present our submarine tender's expeditionary capabilities and positively contribute to our longstanding alliance and friendship with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.”
During the nearly week-long visit, Frank Cable also held their annual Chief Petty Officer pinning ceremony, promoting four Sailors to the rank of chief petty officer.
This was the second port visit for Frank Cable during their fall patrol. Frank Cable departed Apra Harbor, Guam for their deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations, Oct. 18.
Frank Cable, forward-deployed to the island of Guam, repairs, rearms, and reprovisions submarines and surface vessels in the Indo-Pacific region. Frank Cable is on patrol conducting expeditionary maintenance and logistics in support of national security in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.
Under Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with 35 maritime nations in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
