Natural Resources Specialist Kevin Luepke with the Fort McCoy Directorate of Public Works Environmental Division Natural Resources Branch talks with participants in the USO Wisconsin Hike and Hunt event Nov. 17, 2021, about things that can be found in the wild as part of the event at Pine View Campground and Pine View Recreation Area at Fort McCoy, Wis.
Dozens of people attended the free event.
In addition to Luepke and USO personnel supporting, police and conservation officers with the Fort McCoy Directorate of Emergency Services were on hand to help with the event.
Luepke, a native of Shawano, Wis., started work in his current position in early 2020. He had previously worked for many years with the Colorado State University Center for the Environmental Management of Military Lands, which completes work through a cooperative agreement directly supporting Fort McCoy’s natural- and cultural-resources programs.
Fort McCoy was established in 1909 and its motto is to be the “Total Force Training Center.” Located in the heart of the upper Midwest, Fort McCoy is the only U.S. Army installation in Wisconsin.
The installation has provided support and facilities for the field and classroom training of more than 100,000 military personnel from all services nearly every year since 1984.
