Conway, Pennsylvania, native earns title of Marine
A Conway, Pennsylvania, native completed Marine Corps Recruit Training and earned the title of United States Marine, at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina, Nov. 17, 2021.
U.S. Marine Corps Pvt. David Martsolf, an 18-year-old graduate of Freedom Area Senior High School, completed 13 weeks of rigorous training to earn the Eagle, Globe and Anchor, the symbol of the U.S. Marine Corps.
“I was deciding what to do after high school and after speaking with the Marine Corps Recruiter, I realized there were so many jobs I could do well in,” said Martsolf. “The Marine Corps has a long-lasting type of brotherhood that was very appealing to me.”
Martsolf began the enlistment process after meeting U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Cameron Love at Freedom Area High School during his junior year.
His mother, Johonna Stauber, wasn’t as enthusiastic about her son joining at first.
“Before speaking with his recruiter, my thought was, I don’t want my son on the frontlines where he could get hurt,” Stauber said. “After speaking with Sgt. Love I found out about all the opportunities my son has to learn trade and life skills in the Marine Corps.”
Martsolf is an Active Duty Marine and will continue training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, after spending the Holidays with his family.
