The Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) community is hosting a virtual town hall for highly motivated Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) Midshipmen 16 Dec.
The virtual event will provide interested NROTC Midshipmen with an opportunity to learn more about the Navy EOD community mission and what it takes to join the premier maritime EOD force. The sessions on December 16th will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. EST and will cover the EOD community mission areas, selection, initial training, and provide an opportunity for interested applicants to ask questions.
“The Navy EOD community is looking for future leaders driven to solve high risk technical problems to maintain the Department of Defense’s tactical, operational and strategic advantages against U.S. adversaries. Our mission is to eliminate explosive threats so our Fleet and Nation can win – whenever, wherever, and however it chooses to.” said Lt. Cmdr. Jack Damon, Navy EOD’s Officer Community Manager. “As one of the five unrestricted line warfare communities, we are looking for officers with agile minds and strong character who can excel in the most demanding and threatening environments.”
Navy EOD Officers are charged with small-unit leadership and receive specialized training to render safe and dispose of explosive threats ranging from home-made explosives to improvised weapons of mass destruction on land, at sea, and underwater. They are highly trained in diving and parachuting which enables them to work closely with special operations and conventional forces to provide access and maneuverability to achieve their missions. The intelligence collected from rendering safe foreign weaponry can be used to inform national level decision makers to defeat terrorist networks and deter future threats to America. Navy EOD Officers also routinely work with U.S. Secret Service and the U.S. State Department, helping to protect the President, Vice President, and other state and foreign officials and dignitaries.
Interested NROTC students should register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/219437241697.
