The Emory S. Land-class submarine tender USS Frank Cable (AS 40) departed in Sasebo, Japan, Dec. 3.
The Guam-based submarine tender had not visited Sasebo since 2016.
While in Sasebo, Frank Cable provided expeditionary repair services to the America-class amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6). Frank Cable sent more than two dozen repair division Sailors to the America to repair and replace lagging in various sections throughout the ship.
“We appreciate the opportunity to support and work with USS America,” said Capt. Albert Alarcon, USS Frank Cable's commanding officer. “Our repair department Sailors take great pride in their craftsmanship, and this was a great opportunity to exercise their skills.”
Frank Cable’s pipe shop also fabricated collection holding tank cross connection piping for a repair on the America as well.
“We fabricated CHT cross connection piping [for the America],” said Hull Technician 2nd Class Benjamin Kapito, from Monticello, New York. “It felt good working on another ship and showcasing our capabilities to not just submarines, but surface ships as well.”
This was the fourth port visit for Frank Cable during her fall patrol. Frank Cable departed Apra Harbor, Guam, Oct. 18 for their deployment to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.
Frank Cable, forward-deployed to the island of Guam, repairs, rearms, and reprovisions submarines and surface vessels in the Indo-Pacific region. Frank Cable is on patrol conducting expeditionary maintenance and logistics in support of national security in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations.
Under Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet, 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with 35 maritime nations in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
