The 104th Troop Command held an event filled Individual Duty Training St. Croix, December 2021.

Events completed during this December IDT were a 5-mile ruck march, a recruitment drive, and convoy operations.

IDT began Saturday with an early morning 5-mile ruck march which started at 4:30 a.m. Some of the units that participated were 104th Troop Command, 661st Military Police Detachment, Medical Detachment, 662nd Engineering Company, and Detachment 1, Company D, 1-114th Aviation.

“We wanted to get the soldiers out of the building and back to some basic soldiering,” said Lt. Col. Derek Joseph, battalion commander of 104th TC. “The intent of the ruck march was to help build unit cohesion and morale.”

The second event of the day was a recruiting drive. Service members from the different units within 104th TC and recruiters from the R&R Battalion were stationed at three other locations on St. Croix: The Home Depot, the La Reine Chicken Shack, and the Rudolph Shulterbrandt Agricultural Complex in an effort to find new applicants.

“We intend to gain as many qualified applicants as we can in our recruiting efforts,” said Lt. Col. Arthur Hector, the Recruiting and Retention Battalion commander.

The final event was convoy operations on Sunday. Military vehicles traveled to two separate locations off the compound to conduct Army Warrior Task Training.

One convoy headed to Camp Arawak, while the other to Sprat Hall.

“This IDT was a success in meeting the intent, and in speaking with soldiers, they found this IDT rewarding because they were able to be fully engaged,” said Joseph.
