Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP) Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Bahrain provided contracting and logistics support to amphibious assault ship USS Essex (LHD 2) and embarked Marines from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) during a port visit to Manama, Bahrain, Nov. 18–30.

This is the tenth port visit FLC Bahrain has supported for the Essex Amphibious Ready Group (ARG), which is made up of Essex, amphibious dock landing ship USS Pearl Harbor (LSD 52) and amphibious transport dock ship USS Portland (LPD 27), since the ships arrived in mid-September.

During the visit, FLC Bahrain personnel delivered 196 pallets of mission critical parts and supplies, and facilitated quality of life services.

"Our team takes great pride in supporting our mission partners throughout the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility,” said Capt. Timothy Griffin, commanding officer of NAVSUP FLC Bahrain. “Our goal is to provide world class logistics support and I am glad we could play a role in this extremely successful port visit that will help keep Essex ready for tasking."

FLC Bahrain’s fleet mail center also delivered 48,501 pounds of mail over the 13 day visit, which included the Thanksgiving holiday.

“The services and support to the ship have been vital during this port visit,” said Cmdr. Ty Luster, Essex supply officer. “NAVSUP FLC Bahrain has been critical in making our mission successful.”

NAVSUP FLC Bahrain is one of eight FLCs under Commander, NAVSUP. Headquartered in Mechanicsburg, Penn., and employing a diverse, worldwide workforce of more than 22,500 military and civilian personnel, NAVSUP's mission is to provide supplies, services, and quality-of-life support to the Navy and joint warfighter.
