MARINE CORPS BASE HAWAII – Today’s ceremony officially renamed Support Company, Combat Logistics Battalion 3, to Combat Logistics Company 33, Combat Logistics Regiment 37.
The renaming reflects the Marine Corps’ growing focus on providing on-demand supply and logistics support to units operating throughout the Pacific. Though CLC-33’s mission remains the same - to provide timely supply and logistics support – its focus shifts to include all deploying and non-deploying III Marine Expeditionary Force units stationed at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
“The new name clarifies our roles and responsibilities to support to Marine units here in Hawaii for needs that extend beyond what they can accomplish alone. We have the equipment and a committed team of Marines and Sailors to ensure we are ready to independently provide the necessary support functions when directed,” said Maj. Scott Taggart, CLC-33 company commander.
Making CLC-33 a separate and distinct entity allows CLB-3 to become lighter and more expeditionary, focused solely on providing support to the forthcoming Marine Littoral Regiment. CLB-3 will re-assign approximately 50 Marines and Sailors to CLC-33, a subtle change that does not increase the personnel footprint of Marine forces on Hawaii.
“The challenges of the future demand changes like this now; changes that allow CLB-3 to meet the critical logistics needs of commanders and naval expeditionary forces operating throughout the Pacific,” said Lt. Col. Joshua A. Gregory, commanding officer of CLB-3. “We will continue to work with our brothers and sisters now a part of CLC-33 as we refine our working relationship and sharpen our ability to provide the right support at the right time and place.”
Both units provide similar services to include equipment and vehicle maintenance; medical supply and logistics; distribution, postal and food services; motor transport and heavy vehicle recovery; and engineering support.
“We welcome the additional capabilities and operational reach that CLC-33 brings as they join the regiment. Their skills and specialties are things we haven’t had in CLR-37, so overall their addition makes us a more-well-rounded unit,” explained Col. Douglas Burke, commanding officer of CLR-37.
3rd MLG, based in Okinawa, Japan, is a forward-deployed combat unit that serves as III Marine Expeditionary Force’s comprehensive logistics and combat service support backbone for operations throughout the Indo-Pacific area of responsibility.
