VICENZA, Italy – U.S. Army Garrison Italy and the 414th Contract Support Brigade hosted leaders from U.S. Army Contracting Command Feb. 10-13.

U.S Army Contracting Command deputy commanding general of overseas operations Col. Robert J. Miceli and Command Sgt. Maj Julie Saorrono, the ACC command sergeant major, visited the members of the 414th Contract Support Brigade in order to understand the range of assistance the unit provides U.S. Africa Command.

The visit was one of multiple for the ACC to contracting brigades supporting the USAFRICOM, U.S. European Command and U.S. Central Command areas of operation. These visits help ACC leaders gain a better understanding of unit readiness by identifying potential issues and needs, and give units an opportunity to gain strategic insight from senior leaders in their specific job field.

Miceli led a town hall forum to discuss issues and answer questions from both civilian employees and service members from the 414th CSB. One of the primary topics discussed was teleworking and how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way the Army contracting professionals support the military.

Saorrono spoke with NCOs from the 414th during a lunch meeting to discuss career progression. Saorrono emphasized that the ACC is looking to develop NCOs' operational knowledge in the coming future.

Miceli and Saorrono presented coins to civilians and service members from the 414th Contracting Support Brigade in appreciation for their efforts in supporting the 414th CSB’s mission. Recipients of coins were Dali Prado, Ingrid Smith, Maj. Jerry Andes, Capt. Kevin DeVol, Sgt. 1st Class Dele Adeleye, Sgt. 1st Class Justino Surla, Sgt. 1st Class Sergio De La Peña, and Staff Sgt. Cory Graham.

The 414th CSB’s mission is to provide direct contracting support to EUCOM, AFRICOM, CENTCOM, Special Forces Assistance Brigades, the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa, and supporting units in the Vicenza and Darby military communities. They currently operate in over 13 countries on the African continent, and support many SETAF-AF exercises such as African Lion, Justified Accord, African Land Forces Summit, and multiple medical readiness exercises.
