Timothy Bert, a utility systems operator work leader, and Michael Granger, a certified safety and health official, were awarded Occupational Safety and Health Administration Voluntary Protection Program coins by U.S. Marine Corps Col. Mikel Huber, Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Cherry Point commanding officer, during a presentation at the Water Treatment Plant, MCAS Cherry Point, North Carolina, Feb. 16, 2022.
Upon witnessing an unsafe trenching operation that posed a threat to installation residents, Bert and Granger took preventative action and worked together to prevent a hazardous incident from occurring.
“For the installation, it means that that type of mindset is something that we encourage and that people are thinking about it,” said Col. Huber. “Any opportunity to recognize that improving our safety on whatever level it is, is important and is something I enjoy having the opportunity to recognize.”
