MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. -- The Marine Corps Recruiting Command was recently awarded a Meritorious Unit Commendation for the period of Oct. 1, 2018 through Sept. 30, 2020. The unit award authorization was announced in MARADMIN 127/22, signed and published on March 21, 2022.
Marines, sailors and government employees who served at MCRC during this time period, to include personnel serving at the Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED-25), are awarded the commendation. MCRC will conduct an official recognition ceremony at a date and time to be determined.
"The awarding of the Meritorious Unit Commendation to the Marine Corps Recruiting Command demonstrates our Corps' understanding and appreciation of the important contribution our team makes to provide the lifeblood of the Marine Corps,” said Major Gen. Jason Q. Bohm, the MCRC commanding general. “Each individual of the MCRC team should be justifiably proud of the important role they play in our collective success.”
MCRC was recognized for meritorious achievement in attaining an unsurpassed level of efficiency and effectiveness while exhibiting outstanding professional achievement in performance of its assigned mission during the 2019 and 2020 Fiscal Years (FY).
During these two years, the command developed and implemented significant changes that balanced the structure of the recruiting force, implemented technological capabilities to enhance force protection, revolutionized recruiting information systems and network capabilities, and incorporated advanced marketing and advertising capabilities in support of recruiting operations.
Overcoming several challenges, to include the global Coronavirus 2019 pandemic, every individual and organization in direct support of MCRC, at all levels, contributed significantly to the command’s effectiveness and superb accomplishment of success recruiting and commissioning high quality men and women for service in the United States Marine Corps.
In FY19, MCRC entered the year assigned its highest non-prior service enlisted accession mission in more than 10 years, but the recruiting force successfully achieved its assigned mission and exceeded all quality objectives. During FY20, facing extreme challenges as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak, the recruiting force endeavored to implement adaptive measures to protect the force while successfully accomplishing assigned recruiting missions and maintaining a healthy delayed entry program start pool for the kickoff of FY2021.
According to SECNAV Notice 1650, in order for a unit to be worthy of a Meritorious Unit Commendation, the unit must distinguish itself by either valorous or meritorious achievement which renders the unit outstanding compared to other units performing similar service. This award is comparable to a Bronze Star Medal for an individual.
The citation recognizing MCRC states: “By their sustained performance, uncommon initiative and unfailing devotion to duty, the officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees of the Marine Corps Recruiting Command reflected credit upon themselves and upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and the United States Naval Service.”
"The Sergeant Major and I take great pride in the steadfast dedication and commitment to mission success of every member of MCRC during such a trying time,” said Bohm. “True to form, whether on the battlefield or the streets of America, our Marines adapted and overcame several obstacles and sustained mission success."
