QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. — Lance Cpl. Dillon Albrechtsen, a bulk fuel specialist with Bulk Fuel Company Charlie, enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserve in 2019.  Following recruit training, he attended Marine Combat Training and his primary military occupational school training as a bulk fuel specialist.

As a member of the Latter-Day Saint community, he said it was important to that he have the opportunity to fulfill his church's mission. Following his MOS school training, he received this opportunity, completing a two-year mission in Lubbock Texas and Calgary, Canada.  He now has the opportunity to continue to fulfill his duties and goals as a Marine Reservist.

“I was a Boy Scout when I was younger, and they always talked about serving God and your country,” said Albrechsten, a graduate from Benjamin Franklin High School. “So naturally, I felt inspired to continue that service into something greater. And so when the recruiters came around, I felt their invitation personally, and knew that it was for me, I wasn't following the example of anyone else, I was just fulfilling my duty.”

The Marine Corps Reserve affords Marines with the opportunity to fulfill a religious missionary obligation during their reserve commitment by transferring to the standby reserve and resuming their Marine Corps commitment following their mission.

Albrechsten credits the Reserve program for allowing him to continue his faith and pursue bigger goals.

“I was able to use the reserves as a launch point in my life to move on to bigger and better things,” said Albrechsten, a native of Queen Creek, Arizona. “I aspire to become a chaplain, and commissioned as an officer and do that as a career. And by being a reservist that allowed me to serve a mission, but to also go to school, to get my degree and go pursue that career path.”
