The 1st Infantry Division hailed farewell and held an award ceremony for the Main Command Post - Operational Detachment, Colorado Army National Guard, Soldiers, March 25.

The MCPOD supported 1st ID for more than nine months in Poznan, Poland. The Soldiers were awarded the Army Commendation Medal for their help throughout the division and during Operation Atlantic Resolve.

U.S. Army Europe and Africa has led the Department of Defense’s Atlantic Resolve land efforts by providing rotational U.S.-based units to Europe to show commitment to NATO allies while building readiness, increasing interoperability and enhancing the bonds between ally and partner militaries.

The Soldiers were a part of the approximately 7,000 Soldiers who participate in Atlantic Resolve at any given time.

“This celebrates all the services we did. Whether it was exercises, helping out forward operations or just supplying a portion of things” said 1 Lt. Isaiah Daniels, the targeting intelligence officer for the MCPOD.

Following the presentation of the awards, section leaders took the time to highlight how each Soldier played a key role and affected their shop and division as a whole.

“This group of Soldiers came out here and hit the ground running. They took everything we threw at them and surpassed all expectations,” said Col. Geoffrey A. Norman, deputy commanding officer of support, 1st Infantry Division. “Our division would not be in the place we are in right now without these Soldiers, and I would not only like to thank them but their loved ones at home, who let us borrow them for a while.”

The departing Soldiers described leaving as a bittersweet moment, but felt appreciative of all the memories and new friendships they fostered while serving in Poland with the Soldiers of the Big Red One.

“My favorite part was the experience with my teammates, honestly, getting a chance to be able to work with them, learn from them and just be able to live life with them.” said Daniels.
