Okinawa Marines celebrated the 234th Marine Corps birthday with a uniform pageant and cake cutting ceremony at the Camp Foster parade deck Monday.
The celebration included a display of Kubasaki High School's Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps cadets wearing uniforms worn by past and current Marines on and off the battlefield.
Every major period of Marine history and the milestones of Corps traditions, "from the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli," were represented, starting with the Revolutionary War and ending with present-day uniforms.
The ceremony included a recitation of birthday messages from the 13th Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. John A. Lejeune and the current commandant, Gen. James T. Conway.
The event concluded with the cake cutting ceremony and presentation of the birthday cake to the oldest Marine present, Master Gunnery Sgt. Noah Mason, 50, with Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Base Camp Butler, born May 9, 1959.
Mason then passed a slice to the youngest Marine present, Pfc. Juan Canalez, 18, also with Headquarters and Service Bn., born April 13, 1991, symbolizing the experience and youthful spirit of the Corps.
