MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- Marine Forces Special Operations Command participates in the spring Marine Corps Cyber Games, April 13, 2022.
“The Marine Corps Cyber Games is a service-wide effort to foster competition across the Marine Corps in order to increase cyberspace effectiveness and readiness,” said a representative with MARSOC Cyberspace Operations.
The Marine Corps Cyber Games consists of two service-wide Capture the Flag events, one in the spring and one in the fall featuring five teams from across the Marine Corps. Competitors used their skills to identify, locate and counter a cyber adversary on a simulated compromised network.
The Capture the Flag competition provides a venue where Marine cyberspace operators can compete in a tailored scenario to complete cyber challenges of varying difficulty, referred to as cyber flags.
“MARSOC’s participation in the Marine Corps Cyber Games increases the effectiveness and readiness of Cyberspace Warfare Operators assigned to MARSOC, strengthens relationships between MARSOC and the Marine Corps cyberspace operations communities, and builds camaraderie,” said the representative with MARSOC Cyberspace Operations.
MARSOC’s team for the competition was composed of Cyberspace Warfare Operators from the MARSOC G39 Cyber Operations Team supported by individuals from across the MARSOC community and Marines from 2nd Radio Battalion.
“This spring iteration saw some fierce competition, with the MARSOC team placing second behind [I Marine Expeditionary Force Defense Cyberspace Operations-Internal Defensive Measures] by a close margin of only 10 points,” said the representative with MARSOC Cyberspace Operations.
MARSOC’s Cyber Operations Team demonstrated their ability to successfully operate in the cyberspace domain and provide support as part of a multi-domain capable force throughout the competition.
