U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Brian Welde assumed command of the 378th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron during an assumption of command ceremony, May 6, 2022, at Prince Sultan Air Base, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Officiated by Brig. Gen. Robert Davis, commander of the 378th Air Expeditionary Wing, the 378th EOSS guidon was presented to Welde, symbolizing the transfer of leadership.

“I’m happy to welcome Lt. Col. Brian ‘Skippy’ Welde to PSAB and the most important job in the United States Air Force, which is squadron command,” said Davis. “You're the perfect officer for the job. You will define and nurture the organizational culture that will inspire each Airmen to serve a purpose larger than themselves, work hard to achieve excellence and do it while selflessly serving their teammates.

The primary purpose of an assumption of command is for subordinates to witness an officer formally assume responsibility, authority and accountability for the unit. These ceremonies preserve the tradition of military service and stimulate unit esprit de corps.

“Brig. Gen. Davis, I want to thank you for the trust, confidence and the overall opportunity to lead our most strategic asset, our Airmen,” said Welde. “I’m looking forward to the challenges of working with our multiple teams and many diverse missions within the EOSS that allows the wing to run successful operations. Additionally I look forward to the continued teamwork and collaboration with our host nation partners. We will continue to learn from each other and work to make sure the base operates at the highest level. It is truly an honor to work alongside these great Airmen.”

The previous commander was Lt. Col. Ryan Durand, who took interim command of the 378th EOSS for approximately a month, before Welde’s arrival. He was repeatedly thanked and recognized for stepping up and gap-filling leadership ensuring the mission didn’t miss a beat.

The ceremony drew to an end with many Airmen shaking hands with Welde congratulating him on his command and welcoming him to PSAB.
