Being a source of help and guidance to Airmen and their families is the role of the 78th Force Support Squadron at Robins Air Force Base, Georgia.

“We are responsible for the psychological safety of the installation,” said Maj. Sean Purio, 78th FSS deputy director. “Our facilities make or break the quality of life at Robins and the quality of life directly effects mission execution.”

The Sustainment Services Flight falls under the FSS umbrella. Those team members in essence roll out the welcome mat and offer assistance like a concierge.

[media:1:right]The flight incorporates a wide scope of customer service-related activities that sustain the installation, such as lodging, mail center, food operations and fitness center.

“We are the support structure that allows Airmen to thrive and get the mission done,” said Sheree Ham, 78th FSS Sustainment Service flight chief. “When Airmen use our lodging facilities, it eases the burden upon them and their families during transition periods to or from the base.

“And when they make use of our many food and beverage operations, they are able to relax with their families and fellow Airmen.” she added. “They use our exercise equipment in the fitness center to stay ready - mentally and physically - to meet fitness standards and be ready to deploy.”

Since Robins is home away from home for many Airmen, mail and parcel delivery are very important for helping them stay connected with loved ones.

According to Ham, this morale booster is especially important to the men and women living in the dorms. And the new addition of a new delivery service is making it more convenient for them to pick up their packages.

“We recently installed what we call intelligent lockers,” Ham said. “The lockers will provide a 24/7 access point, which previously wasn’t available.

“This means our dorm residents can pick up their packages outside of duty hours and on weekends,” she continued. “We are proud to be the first Air Force base to field this innovative solution for our Airmen. But what matters most is making sure our Airmen feel at home and connected on Robins.”
