At Camp Shelby, Naval Construction Group (NCG) 2 graduated their newest class of Crew Serve Machine Gun Operators. The course, which began with a classroom portion featuring extensive lab time and guided hands-on training at the Naval Construction Battalion Center (NCBC), was led by Course Supervisor Utilitiesman First Class (UT1) Douglas Slaughter, and Range Safety Officer, UT1 John Hurley.
In the second of week of training, Seabees from Naval Mobile Construction Battalion (NMCB) 1, NMCB-11, and NMCB-14 engaged in multiple courses of fire to demonstrate readiness when handling Crew Serve Machine Guns at Camp Shelby, MS. They safely operated and performed immediate action drills, disassembly and reassembly on the M240B, M2A1, and MK-19 Weapons systems. Students were tasked with demonstrating readiness to employ these weapons by successfully completing drills incorporating nomenclature and demonstrating complete understanding of the weapons systems, completing an in-depth exam, and successfully performing weapons employment on the range.
Seabees who are qualified Crew-Serve Operators enhance their battalion’s readiness for deployment and greatly improve mission capabilities.
