    What is it?
Fuerzas Comando is a Special Operations skills competition and a senior leader seminar supported by SOCSOUTH. Both events enhance Special Operations Forces (SOF) regional cooperation and exchanges best practices to combat transnational crime and counter illicit activities. This year's host is Honduras.

U.S. Joint Special Operations University moderates the senior leader seminar designed for leaders, military and police of the SOF units, and the civilian leadership/policymakers to collaborate to counter emerging crises.

    What is the Army doing?
U.S. Army SOF and all U.S. military branches provide a unified unconventional approach through multiple engagements such as military training, subject matter exchanges, and multinational exercises. In addition, SOF complements conventional forces through actions below the threshold of armed combat by leveraging cultural and linguistic expertise.

What continued efforts does the U.S. Army have planned for the future?
At the direction of the Defense Department, the U.S. Army supports SOUTHCOM's ongoing regional support, making the U.S. the partner of choice during times of need and a caring neighbor. The U.S. is postured to respond to crises such as the Hurricanes Eta and Iota that battered Central America in late 2020 and Haiti's earthquake in mid-2021.

Why is it important to the U.S. Army?
The U.S. Army and its sister services are integral to SOUTHCOM's commitment in enhancing multinational and regional cooperation, trust, and confidence through persistent and consistent engagements with allies and partners in the western hemisphere.

Mutual security cooperation is part of combined deterrence which cannot be created instantaneously but must be cultivated and maintained. As America's allies and partners deploy alongside U.S. forces during future conflicts, the benefit of these relationships will again prove to be irreplaceable.

The U.S. Army and the Department of Defense work with the State Department to enable a whole-of-government approach against transnational criminal organizations, violent extremist organizations, and external state actors that seek to destabilize democracy within Central, South America, and the Caribbean.
