3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division

SCHOFIELD BARRACKS, Hawaii - The 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division senior enlisted advisor, Command Sgt. Maj. Thinh Huynh relinquished responsibility of the Bronco Brigade to Command Sgt. Maj. Shaun Curry during a change of responsibility ceremony at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii, June 7, 2022.

Huynh assumed responsibility in the summer of 2020 and lead the unit through the COVID-19 pandemic, fought to maintain readiness, and still continued to culminate the training cycle with multiple deployments in support of Operation Pathways. Throughout his time, Huynh focused on Soldier well-being by significantly improving the unit Bronco Café dining facility.

From major training events across the islands of Hawaii to multinational training exercises across the globe there was never a lull for Broncos during Huynh’s tenure as the senior enlisted advisor.

“My time at the best brigade in the Army, the Bronco Brigade, has been one of the most challenging and rewarding of my career,” said Huynh. “Never before have I had the pleasure of working at such a high pace through so many once-in-a-lifetime challenges. The Bronco Soldiers are without a doubt the highest caliber Light Fighters in this Army.”

Huynh’s next assignment is the Command Senior Enlisted Advisor, U.S. Space Command in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Col. Josh Bookout, the 3IBCT commander, highlighted the importance of the noncommissioned officer’s role throughout an Army formation, specifically, their most vital task of advising the commander. He also emphasized the passion Huynh displayed working to improve the everyday lives of Bronco Soldiers.

“I’ve had the privilege of training with and fighting alongside Armies from other nations across the world, and the one thing that is consistently different is the role and responsibility of the NCO Corps,” Bookout said. “Command Sergeant Major Huynh has been a force for good in the Bronco Brigade.”

The brigade’s new senior enlisted advisor is not new to Oahu, Curry joins the Bronco Brigade after serving as the battalion command sergeant major for 1st Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. Curry took notice of the culture of excellence displayed by the Bronco brigade.

“I am grateful and proud to call myself a member of the Bronco Ohana,” Curry said. “We will continue to grow the legacy of this organization through the actions of every Bronco Light Fighter. To me, it’s more a story about every individual’s achievements adding up to how we all play a part in continuing the unit’s legacy.”

Curry’s assumption of command comes at a critical time for brigade. The Broncos have Soldiers supporting exercises in Malaysia and Brunei, and will send elements to Indonesia and Fiji later this summer in support of exercises Garuda Shield and Cartwheel.
