POZNAN, Poland - U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Geoffrey Norman, deputy commanding general for support of the 1st Infantry Division, received recognitions from the Polish general commander of the branches of the armed forces as well as the 14th Military Economic Department of the Polish army for his efforts and cooperation with the Polish Armed Forces throughout Poland during 2021 and 2022.

Norman was the 1st Infantry Division Forward commander of all forward and rotational units under the command of 1ID. The deployment of ready, combat-credible U.S. forces to Europe in support of Atlantic Resolve is evidence of his strong and unremitting commitment to the Army, NATO, and Europe.

Norman received the Polish Army Medal from Polish Land Forces Gen. Jarosław Mika, general commander of Branches of the Armed Forces on behalf of the Polish army for his efforts and cooperation throughout Atlantic Resolve and his oversight of the Abrams Operations Summit as a colonel. In addition to the Abrams Operations Summit, Norman also led other partnerships conducted in conjunction with the Polish land forces such as the Abrams Apprenticeship Program.

“It’s important to take away that this is an example of our commitment to a very important NATO ally,” Norman said when discussing the Abrams Apprenticeship program at the Abrams Operations Summit. “This is an effort we’re undertaking to build combat readiness here on the eastern flank of NATO with military-to-military engagements designed to increase interoperability so we can operate shoulder-to-shoulder with one another.”

The Polish Army Medal is one of Poland's highest honors to foreign military. Established in 1999, the Polish Army Medal recognizes service to the Polish Army by foreign civilians and military personnel. It is presented in three grades: gold, silver and bronze. Norman was awarded the silver variant of the medal.

He also received a recognition from the commander of the 14th Military Economic Department, Polish army Lt. Col. Bogdan Kobylański, for his service and leadership, highlighting the partnership between the 1st Infantry Division and his unit, stationed in Poznan.

Norman was promoted to the rank of brigadier general during his time in Poland, and has served for 28 years in the U.S. Army.
