USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69)

NAVAL AIR STATION OCEANA–VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Marc J. Miguez will be relieving Rear Adm. Scott F. Robertson as Commander, Carrier Strike Group Two (CSG 2) at a change of command ceremony to be held at 10 a.m. Thursday June 16, 2022 in the ceremonial hangar onboard Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana.
Miguez is coming from his last tour as the Deputy Director for Operations, National Joint Operations Intelligence Center, Operations Team TWO, J3, Joint Staff.
“It is an honor to be placed in command of a carrier strike group,” said Miguez. “It is the cornerstone of our naval power, operated by the finest Sailors and Officers our nation can produce. Because of that, I am humbled to continue this strike group’s legacy. I look forward to leading these outstanding men and women.”
As the Commander of CSG 2, Miguez will lead the flagship Nimitz-Class aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), the guided-missile cruisers USS Monterey (CG 61), USS Vella Gulf (CG 72), the guided-missile destroyers USS Mitscher (DDG 57), USS Laboon (DDG 58), USS Mahan (DDG 72), USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116) as well as nine air squadrons serving with Carrier Air Wing THREE.
Robertson assumed command of CSG-2 in Dec. 2020. During his tour, the strike group sailed more than 190,000 nautical miles, operating dynamically across multiple fleets with NATO allies, partners, and friends. The strike group participated a number of exercises and operations including Exercise Lightning Handshake with the Royal Moroccan Navy and Royal Moroccan Air Force and Operation Inherent Resolve. Elements of the strike group also participated in Exercise Sea Shield 21, a multinational naval exercise hosted by Romania. Furthermore, during its final month in 5th fleet, it provided support for the drawdown of U.S. and coalition forces from Afghanistan in support of Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
“It has been a great honor to lead such awesome Sailors in this strike group,” said Robertson. “We prevailed every day in keeping to our motto: ‘Hit Hard, Hit Fast, Hit Often.’ I know I will be turning over the command of CSG-2 to capable hands.”
Robertson was awarded the Legion of Merit for his outstanding performance as strike group commander. His next assignment will be as Director of Plans, Policy and Strategy (J5) at NORTHCOM/NORAD.
The ceremony’s guest speaker was Vice Adm. James Kilby, Deputy Commander U.S. Fleet Forces Command, who welcomed Miguez aboard.
The flagship of CSG-2 is the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69). Other units assigned include nine squadrons from Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 3; Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruisers USS Philippine Sea (CG 58), USS Monterey (CG 61) and USS Vella Gulf (CG 72); and Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyers USS Mitscher (DDG 57), USS Laboon (DDG 58), USS Mahan (DDG 72) and USS Thomas Hudner (DDG 116) from Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22.
