PEARL HARBOR - The ship’s company of Royal Malaysian Navy ship KD Lekir (F-26) and Indonesian Navy frigate KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai (332) were among those who celebrated the Eid al-Adha today to mark the completion of the annual muslim pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia.
The day started with Eid prayers where an exchange of personnel took place involving a group of officers and sailors from KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai and KD Lekir each going to the other’s ship to perform the prayers. The Commander of the Indonesian Navy Fleet Command 2 was present to perform the Eid prayers on KRI I Gusti Ngurah Rai while KD Lekir hosted the Malaysian Defence Attache to the United States as well as the US Defence Attache to Malaysia.
Officers of the Royal Brunei Navy and local-based Indonesians were also invited to join the celebration and feasted on traditional Indonesian and Malaysian cuisine.
The two ships are in Hawaii as participants of the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022 and came together with friends, old and new, on a day such as this eases the melancholy of being away from home and loved ones.
Twenty-six nations, 38 ships, four submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 29 to Aug. 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans. RIMPAC 2022 is the 28th exercise in the series that began in 1971.
