    6th Marine Corps District

MONTGOMERY, AL - The Marines of 6th Marine Corps District and Recruiting Station Montgomery, family, and friends came together for the RS Montgomery’s change of command ceremony, where Maj. Vincent L. Thompson relinquished his duties as the commanding officer of RS Montgomery to Maj. Nicolas R. Martino.

Thompson, a native of Douglasville, Georgia, served as the commanding officer of RS Montgomery from June 15, 2019, until July 1, 2022, when the ceremony was held in Montgomery, Alabama. Martino, a native of Kinderhook, New York, served at Marine Wing Support Squadron 271 as the Operations Officer prior to reporting to RS Montgomery.

“I’m very thankful to be in command of such a great team. The Marines of RS Montgomery humble me every day with their work ethic and drive,” said Martino. “We will continue to improve upon the foundation left by Maj. Thompson and take RS Montgomery to the top of 6MCD.”

Before the conclusion of his tour as commanding officer, Thompson made a donation to the ReadBAMARead, a non-profit organization based in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

As a send-off, Col. Lance J. Langfeldt, the commanding officer of 6MCD, and Sgt. Maj. Cory T. Curtis, the sergeant major of RS Montgomery, awarded Thompson with a meritorious service award and a recruiting award for his contributions to the 6th District recruiting mission.

“Recruiting Duty was the most challenging assignment I’ve had. I’m thankful for the lessons learned and the experience of watching non-commissioned officers and staff non-commissioned officers directly address the needs of our nation’s defense on a daily basis,” Thompson said. “What I will always appreciate about recruiting duty is that your work ethic and attitude directly correlate to your performance. Nobody owns success on recruiting duty. It will always be leased and the rent is due every day.”

When addressing his Marines for the last time as the commanding officer of RS Montgomery, Thompson told them to “Wear your recruiting ribbon with pride, knowing that you served with RS Montgomery.”

Thompson’s next assignment will be at the Air University, headquartered at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.
