PACIFIC OCEAN – Royal Australian Navy landing helicopter dock HMAS Canberra (L02) has celebrated the 120th Birthday of the Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps (RAAOC) during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022.

The Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corp (RAAOC) celebrated its 120th birthday onboard HMAS Canberra during Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022.

Major Raechel Driscoll, a Logistics Officer onboard Canberra said she is very proud to be a part the corps and its rich history.

“Although we have celebrated 120 years on Jul. 1, our history as ordnance workers has been around for hundreds of years dating back to Tudor times,” said Driscoll. “It was great to be able to share our special day with a variety of members from the branch and of course our Navy logisticians.”

The RAAOC Branch is made up of administration clerks, warehouse managers, storeman, ammunition technicians, parachute riggers, and petroleum operators and plays a vital role in supporting the Army to fulfill its assigned tasks in the defence and security of Australia, providing essential logistic support both in peace and when deployed on exercises or operations.

During RIMPAC 2022, the members have provided a significant service to the exercise working interchangeably with partner Navy counterparts at sea.

Twenty-six nations, 38 ships, four submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 29- Aug. 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California. The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s oceans. RIMPAC 2022 is the 28th exercise in the series that began in 1971.
