KUWAIT – U.S. Soldiers assigned to the 1067th Composite Truck Company participated in the Danish Contingent (DANCON) march while deployed to the Middle East.

Despite the 25 km march beginning early at 1:30 a.m., the temperature outside was still 94 degrees Fahrenheit. Sgt. 1st Class Michael J. Marra said that the temperature continued to rise as dawn drew near.

"It was 101 degrees Fahrenheit once we finished at 7:30 in the morning,” said Marra.

However, concern regarding high temperatures did not prevent the Soldiers from participating in the event. The 250 Soldiers who registered for the ruck march raised $8,750 for the Danish Wounded Warriors Project.

“It was nice to see the Danish Soldiers come out and support the ruck by wearing the 213th [Regional Support Group] and American Flag patches," said Marra. "This was a great opportunity to support a good cause for the Danish Wounded Warrior Project, and Soldiers got to show off their physical strength.”

The DANCON march initiated in 1972 and remains a traditional event to foster the partnership that Danish forces have with their allies.

“In the end, there was a great sense of accomplishment by showing we had the strength and stamina to complete the Danish Contingent Ruck March 25 km during Kuwait's drought season.”

The 1067th CTC has been deployed to the Middle East since January in support of U.S. Central Command and Task Force Spartan.
