FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. - U.S. Customs and Border Protection Special Response Team officers, conducted their critical skills course to improve readiness at the Northeast Counterdrug Training Center’s High Risk Entry Facility here July 19, 2022.
The SRT is itself a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team. These specially selected CBP Officers are trained to deal with situations too complex or dangerous for non-SWAT CBP Officers.
NCTC provides training in prevention and counterdrug activities to law enforcement agencies and community-based organizations in the northeastern United States. NCTC’s training efforts work towards reducing the availability of illicit drugs, improving public safety and diminishing drug use in society.
New SRT operators who have completed the SRT basic selection course must then complete the month-long critical skills course in order to deploy for local missions from their field office and for national deployments. These specialized operators train to work on task forces with different federal agencies and military units.
The SRT chose NCTC to conduct their training because the facility is a central mid-Atlantic hub that is close to the CBP national headquarters in Washington D.C. and many other CBP field offices. Operators who previously completed the critical skills course here recommended the installation for the ease of access for students traveling in from far distances.
The NCTC’s High Risk Entry Facility offers close quarter combat breach training and is capable of housing and training law enforcement and drug reduction professionals. The site provides a modern and professional environment for training, conferences and planning sessions, which are essential to the counterdrug community.
