58th Expeditionary Military Intelligence Brigade
ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The 110th Information Operations Battalion of the Maryland Army National Guard observed their change of command ceremony at Battalion Headquarters on June 4.
The outgoing commander, Lt. Col. Kristie Roy, passed the unit colors of the 110th IO to Col. B. Clayton Jackson, commander of the 58th Expeditionary Military Intelligence Brigade, who in turn entrusted them to the incoming commander, Lt. Col. Adam Kavalsky, signifying the change of command.
Jackson officiated the ceremony and provided guest remarks, pointing out the work Roy had done leading one of his brigade’s larger elements. She moves on to attend the resident Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala.
Beginning her career in the Washington Army National Guard, Lt. Col. Roy has served for over twenty-one years. Two days after the 9/11 attacks in New York and the Pentagon, Roy began Basic Combat Training before commissioning as a 2nd Lieutenant in 2002 via Officer Candidate School. Lt. Col. Roy’s deployments include Iraq as Battalion Intelligence Plans Officer for the 81st Brigade (2008) and Afghanistan as Senior Intelligence Advisor to the Afghan National Army Special Operations Command and member of Special Operations Advisory Group (2017-18). In addition, she has served multiple active-duty tours, to include as J2 for the National Guard Homeland Response Force, Region X.
Lt. Col. Roy holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Southern Maine and a master’s degree in Management with a concentration in Army Operations and National Security plus a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland. She is presently a Lead Associate with Booz Allen Hamilton and has two children, JinJu and HaNeul.
During his remarks Kavalsky spoke of his strong sense of duty in fulfilling the command role. “As I begin my fourth command assignment, I will apply all of my Army training, mentor-shared wisdom, and experience to the 110th IO Bn mission. Providing purpose, direction and motivation across the battalion in this operating environment is an opportunity that I do not take lightly.”
Lt. Col. Adam C. Kavalsky has commanded the 629 Network Support Company, Headquarters Troop - 1-158 Cavalry, and Maryland’s Officer Candidate School Company - 70th Regiment. He was deployed to Camp Bucca, Iraq (2007), Camp Morehead, Afghanistan (2017), and multiple state active-duty missions to include serving as the J1 on the Maryland National Guard Joint Staff to support the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. In 2021, he served as the G1 for Task Force Capitol Grounds after the 2021 U.S. Capitol unrest.
Lt. Col. Kavalsky is a graduate of Susquehanna University with a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science, and Loyola College Maryland (where he received his commission while attending the Reserve Officer Training Corps) with a Master of Science in Computer Science. He is also an alumnus of the National Outdoor Leadership School and the Saint Paul’s School in Brooklandville. In his civilian career, he is a White House Leadership Development Fellow assigned to the Executive Office of the President. He currently resides in Maryland with his wife, Christina and two children, Harrison and Annabel.

The 110th IO Battalion is part of the 58th Expeditionary Military Intelligence Brigade of the Maryland Army National Guard. The battalion is headquartered in Annapolis, Md. and traces its unit heritage to World War I through the 110th Field Artillery Regiment until its disbanding in 2008, when the regiment was had its lineage carried on through the new 110th Information Operations Field Support Battalion, later shortened to the 110th IO. The battalion employs capabilities to influence, disrupt, corrupt or usurp adversarial human and automated decision making while protecting its own and has participated in operations as close as state emergencies and as far as Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa.
