Commander, MyNavy Career Center, Rear Adm. Stu Satterwhite, discussed with fleet leaders and Command Pay and Personnel Administrators the steps being taken to improve Sailor pay processes. This time, his travels took him to several key overseas locations including Naval Support Activity Bahrain; Naval Air Station Sigonella and Naval Support Activity Naples, Italy; and Naval Station Rota, Spain.
At each stop, he met with leadership triads to answer their questions about how changes to pay and personnel transaction processes will impact their Sailors. With the CPPAs, he took on many questions and explained the vision for fixing Sailor pay, all part of the “Get Real, Get Better” mindset.
“We remain committed to improving Sailor pay, to getting real and getting better,” he said. Satterwhite was encouraged from the questions he heard from CPPAs, noting, “the support and more importantly the drive to succeed is there.”
Those initiatives include establishing waterfront Tiger Teams to tackle the transaction workload; conducting CPPA training fleet-wide with an eye toward expanding CPPA authorities; and working with the Defense and Finance Accounting Service to develop an enhanced Unit Commander’s Financial Report to create transparency for all levels in the chain of a command’s pay picture. MNCC is also standing up a working group to examine the Key Supporting Documents required for each type of transaction to streamline processes.
Earlier this year, Satterwhite made visits to San Diego; Pearl Harbor; Japan; Groton, Connecticut; Hampton Roads, Virginia; the National Capital Region; and Bremerton, Whidbey Island and Everett, Washington.
Satterwhite said his engagements reinforce his objective to communicate to Sailors how the Navy is improving Sailor pay.
“It’s fundamental for everyone to understand what is going on and know what role they have to play,” he said. “Informing the fleet on how these changes benefit them and their families reduces the stress and uncertainty many may be feeling right now. I want them focused on their jobs. We owe them our fullest commitment and that’s what we’ll give.”
