    9th Naval Construction Regiment

PORT HUENEME, Calif. — Chief Petty Officer Chuck Phillips, a builder and native of Oklahoma City, Okla., assigned to the Seabees of the 9th Naval Construction Regiment is currently serving at Port Hueneme, Calif., in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Phillips attended Putnam City High School and is the son of Charles and Ann Phillips, who reside in Oklahoma City.

Phillips and the Seabees in his regiment departed from their homeport of Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth in Fort Worth, Texas, to complete a six-month deployment to Port Hueneme.

Phillips' job is the Future Operations chief for Naval Construction Forces for all construction projects in the Pacific Command. Geographically, this encompasses all construction projects from the east coast of Africa to the west coast of the United States. Currently, Seabees are conducting more than 30 construction projects in 8 countries across this region.

Phillips, who's been in the Navy since August 1995, says he feels proud to be part of an event that is making history.

"I am extremely proud to be a member of 9NCR," said Phillips. "In 2006, we were the first Naval Reserve Construction Regiment to be deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, and now the first reserve regiment to be deployed as the command element for the Pacific Command."

Seabees bring a broad range of technical and military skills which, in combination, provide a unique capability to the engineering mission. In addition to construction, these essential capabilities include robust organic support functions such as logistics, maintenance and communications.
