Naval Surface Warfare Center, Philadelphia Division hosted its Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 3rd Quarter Awards Ceremony on Aug. 1, 2022.

In total, the ceremony honored 33 employees, including:

    · Career Service (Three awardees with 40 years of service, 15 with 35 years of service, one with 30 years of service, and one with 25 years of service)

    · Scientist and Engineer Development Program (SEDP) graduates (2 awardees)

    · Letters of Appreciation (11 awardees)

NSWCPD Labor and Employee Relations Lead Pam Megathlin opened the ceremony before turning it over to NSWCPD Commanding Officer Capt. Dana Simon to share a few remarks with the honorees.

“Thirty to 45 years! What great accomplishments for the folks that have been serving our country this long. If we take time to look back 45 years ago the world was a different place. And here we are today, and it is all because of your efforts and what you have done for your country during the past 30 to 45 years. Thank you all for your service,” said Simon.

NSWCPD Quality Management Officer Director Frank Gerace acknowledged Brian Savidge, mechanical engineer, on his 40 years of government service.

“For 35 years of his career, he has provided engineering support for the shipyard from the steam and auxiliary compulsions plant division,” Gerace said, reflecting on Savidge's contributions to NSWCPD. “Brian was involved in many shipyard installations along the way. Specifically, catapult compulsions and axillary broilers, steam plant, and pitch systems. Brian served as section head from 2000 to 2006 until the division restructured.”

“He is dedicated to the service and fleet by ensuring the Lead System Engineer delivers the best quality product by ensuring Systems Engineering Processes are implemented correctly. He provides vast experience and knowledge to our new LSE and SEP auditors. During his 40 years, Brian received several recognition awards for his dedication and services. Brian always has a can-do attitude for our Navy,” Gerace added.

The next member recognized for 40 years of government service was acknowledged by Machinery Research, Logistics and Ship Integrity Department Head Dawn Ware, who talked about Mechanical Engineer Will Goins' career.

“His career has been dedicated to analyzing and inspecting aluminum superstructure and proving reliability and service life to innumerable frigates and cruisers. Will has used his first-hand knowledge to help scientists and engineers develop and deploy laboratory and shipboard technologies to better combat aluminum sanitization,” Ware said.

Cybersecure Hull, Mechanical & Electrical (HM&E) Control Systems & Networks Department Head Seth Burmaster closed the career service award portion by honoring Maria Donnelly, computer engineer, for her long-term commitment.

“Her desire and ability to train young engineers on Systems Engineering Process (SEP) alongside the design integration and executions of Data Acquisition Systems (DAS) are invaluable. Her leadership skills and work ethic are traits all young engineers should attempt to obtain," said Burmaster.

Graduating from the SEDP program were Anthony Sangrigoli, Jr. and Joshua Terrero.

A Letter of Appreciation was presented to the following employees for their direct support of a test site ribbon cutting ceremony: Kristen Cottone, Jamie Gates, Ryan Greer, Margaret Kenyon, Jeffrey Kilgallen, Shannon Owens, Jenny Pang, Domonick Prate, Charles Raudenbush, Ryan Taggart and Anthony Tropea.

NSWCPD employs approximately 2,800 civilian engineers, scientists, technicians, and support personnel. The NSWCPD team does the research and development, test and evaluation, acquisition support, and in-service and logistics engineering for the non-nuclear machinery, ship machinery systems, and related equipment and material for Navy surface ships and submarines. NSWCPD is also the lead organization providing cybersecurity for all ship systems.
