BAGHDAD —Iraq's Ministry of Defence held a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Directorate General for Intelligence and Security here Dec. 14 for a new 13,900 square meter headquarters facility.
Iraq Training and Advisory Mission Director Maj. Gen. Richard Rowe said, "[DGIS] will provide a world class facility to bring their whole team together and allow the organization to [better] focus on their mission."
DGIS will serve as the heart of the intelligence community for the MoD and will be central to collection, synthesis, processing and dissemination of intelligence. The DGIS compound consolidates various intelligence agencies and offices into a secure modern facility.
The Director General for DGIS said, "This is going to facilitate and increase the coordination of all directorates under the DGIS headquarters." He added, "We are humbled by and grateful for this magnificent gift from the United States to Iraq. It is an important symbol of the friendship between our countries and will be important to our continuing fight against the terrorists trying to influence Iraq."
