    9th Naval Construction Regiment

PORT HUENEME, Calif. — Petty Officer 1st Class James S. Tighe, a resident of Ashdown, Ark., assigned to the Seabees of the 9th Naval Construction Regiment is currently serving at Port Hueneme, Calif., in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Tighe and the Seabees in his regiment departed from their homeport of NAS JRB Fort Worth, Texas to complete a six-month deployment to Port Hueneme.

Tighe, the son of Joann Tighe, who resides in El Dorado, Ark., and the late James Tighe is currently attending Coastline Community College online to finish his Associates degree in Construction Technology.

Tighe's position with the Regiment is Pacific Operations Petty Officer, which includes tracking and management of Situation Reports and unit assignments for 13 Seabee construction projects currently underway in the Pacific theater. He is also the regiment's Assistant Drug and Alcohol Program Advisor. Additionally, Tighe has organized and participated in several volunteer community service projects which allow the Seabees to contribute off-duty time to the community.

Tighe, who's been in the Navy since March 2000, says he feels proud to be part of an event that is making history.

"After being deployed to Bahrain from 2001 to 2003, and to Iraq in 2007, being deployed inside the U.S. this time is a change of pace," said Tighe. "As a Reservist, deployments give me the opportunities both to learn and to bring my civilian technical and management skills to the Navy. I'm very happy to be able to give back to the community, too, through the volunteer projects we've been doing during this deployment."

Seabees bring a broad range of technical and military skills which, in combination, provide a unique capability to the engineering mission. In addition to construction, these essential capabilities include robust organic support functions such as logistics, maintenance and communications.
